Matthew 5:8 "Blessed Are The Pure In Heart"
Today we might say, blessed are those who have a God-centered integrity. The heart is a metaphor for the very center of our being; our thoughts, motivations, will and emotions. We might say that the heart represents who we really are. If we were truly transparent, our actions in the world would be faithful external demonstrations of who we are. Yet that is not the case because of our sin.

Sometime during elementary school, some well-meaning teacher tried to keep the peace in her classroom by telling us that if we were nice to others they would be nice to us. Life experience was soon to give the lie to that platitude when we tried to schmooze the bully on the playground later that afternoon. Yet, back in the time that every school day started with the trinity of the Pledge of Allegiance, the Lord’s Prayer and a reading from the Bible, she could find apparent support from the teachings of Jesus for this heavenly quid pro quo.
