Special Belize Relationship

Lee Pemberton (on left in picture to the right) wrote about his special relationship with one family in Cristo Rey, Belize.

Dad, Alfredo (pictured with Lee at right), and I first met seven years ago when he taught me how to lay blocks. We've been friends ever since and stay in touch via email. The family always invites me to visit in their home whenever I'm in Belize. Alfredo teaches Bible at Cornerstone High School where he is also the Vice Principal. He is attending the Presbyterian seminary in Orange Walk on the weekends. Alfredo also teaches Sunday School in Cristo Rey and is the first in his family to convert to Christianity. I am considering a proposal to our Outreach Committee for funding his next quarter in seminary.

Alfredo's daughter, from left to right in the family picture, is in her first semester at Corozal Community College this summer. His wife is from Guatemala where she was a cook in a Catholic orphanage. She is a stay at home mom and speaks very little English. Alfred was born two years ago and has been in and out of hospital and still undergoing testing. Jessica, the younger daughter will start at Cornerstone High School this Fall. The girls have been coming to our VBS for five summers now. Alfredo always helps at the construction site and over the years has taught many St. Matthew's members how to plaster and do block work. My daughter, Brooke Pemberton, is pictured on the far right.
