Refinishing the Pews
St. Matthew's will have new-looking pews! The project began April 12 and ends May 1. Certified Services of Richmond is restoring the pews.
The Scope of the Restoration
- All pews in the sanctuary, chapel, and choir area will be restored to the original finish. Light has changed the pews from their original color.
- The Endowment Fund is the primary supporter of this project.
The Steps
- All racks were removed from the pews.
- All kneelers were removed from the pews and the vinyl cushions were removed and cleaned. Repairs were completed as needed.
- The pews, along with the racks and kneelers, were lightly sanded, leaving some of the character created over the years.
- The wood was then restained.
- Finally, a clear-coat finish was applied.
